Leftover stumps ground down below grade so your yard is smooth, clean and ready for whatever comes next.
A stump is the part of the job most people regret leaving. It catches the mower, it trips visitors, it sends up suckers all summer, and it slowly turns into a home for carpenter ants, termites and fungus that you would rather not have sitting a few feet from the house.
Grinding takes care of all of it. Our machine chews the stump and the surface roots down below ground level, leaving you with soil and grindings instead of an obstacle and a yard you can mow, plant, pave or fence across.
It is a trip hazard and a mower-killer
Decaying stumps attract termites, carpenter ants and fungus close to the house
Many species keep pushing up suckers from the stump and roots for years
It blocks replanting, a patio, a shed, a fence line or a driveway extension
It keeps a finished job looking unfinished
A fast, efficient process from inspection to complete site restoration.
Tell us how many stumps there are, roughly how wide, and whether the machine can get to them.
We quote on diameter and access, and confirm underground utilities are marked before we grind.
The stump and accessible surface roots are ground down below grade.
Grindings are levelled back into the hole or removed, and the area is raked ready for topsoil.
Grinding shaves the stump down below ground level with a machine and leaves the root system in place to break down naturally. Full removal excavates the stump and root ball out of the ground, which means heavy equipment, a large hole to backfill and considerably more disruption and cost. For almost every residential situation, grinding is the sensible choice.
Four to eight inches below grade covers most needs, including reseeding grass. If you are planting a new tree, laying a patio or setting fence posts in the same spot, tell us and we will go deeper.
By default we backfill them into the hole and level it off, which settles over a few weeks. If you would rather have clean soil to work with, we can haul the grindings away instead — just say so on the estimate.
Not directly into the grindings — they are high in carbon and will struggle to support new grass. Bring in a few inches of topsoil over the levelled area and seed into that.
Yes, and we take care of it. Grinding blades go deep enough to reach shallow gas, water, electric and irrigation lines, so locations get marked before the machine starts.
